There is another plugin that has already been added that i use, im using it on 1.12.2 and it works exactly the same. It is called Timber. Hope that helps! Instead of using a mod you can use a spigot software to use the plugin, you can also add more plugins! They are like mods but they don't add completely new items.
I play with a lot of mods on forge. and as I understood it there is no way to install plugins, so I'm content with mods.
