how do i get Doggy Talents mod working?

    so i'm trying to get the mod "Doggy Talents" working, using the version 1.16.5-2.1.9, and to run it. the beds work fine, though i cannot access the dog inventory or anything without having the api downloaded into the server's folder. i haven't been able to get this working at all- how can i fix this?
