They can't because all the plugins and mods are installed on their machines, and in order to prevent an user from plugging a virus or an unauthorized mod into their machines, they do it all manually and only from trusted sources.

Oh I just noticed that the server isn't actually closing, it's crashing. Since I went to the website and it'd say "stopping" I assumed the console was stopping too. Thanks for the help. Problem found then.

Hello! This happened twice today. The server simply closes on it's own, even with users inside and not idle. It just randomly starts closing, nothing to point out in the console. It feels weird because I'm literally moving and breaking blocks when it starts closing. It does not seem to be a crash, just a simple closing.
Here are the logs if they matter: https://mclo.gs/UE1jBxr
Anyone know what might be provoking this? It would be rather annoying that the server shuts down while people are playing and then we have to wait half an hour to get past the queue (we hadn't have to wait that long, but could happen).
Thanks in advance!

I think his problem is that his friend's username uses characters from a different alphabet, and the whitlist option on the server options only accepts standard characters. Is there any way to use non-standard characters?

As for the exceptions, the thing is that if you open an exception, others users will want to drop in too. I also think I read somewhere that their API automatically gets the plugins from the official sources, so getting a custom plugin would be an extra ton of work dedicated to one single request of one single user. Regarding the checking for virus or not, the problem here is that they can't guarantee what your plugin really does (without using it for a while, which would take a lot more work too). You might not do this, but some user would definitely try to sneak a script to keep the server up 24/7, which goes against how this service works and manages to operate for free

I was just trying to give that user another coherent explanation of probably why the plugin he wanted could not be added, since he didn't seem to understand well 😅

Yeah, just noticed the autocorrect on my phone messed up some of the commands that aren't actually English.
-
I've also been having this problem frequently recently, unsure why. But here's a list of temporary fixes that have worked for me:
1. Turn off your firewall.
2. Try a different network, if you can. For example, your mobile phone's data (if you can).
3. Clear your DNS cache. To do this, open the command line (search for cmd on windows) and type "ipconfig /flushdns" without the "",then press enter.
4. Uninstall all instances of Java and install the correct one (windows 32 or 64 bit accordingly).
Unsure if related, but try starting your server (on the website), then restart your computer and open only minecraft. That worked once for me.

And I'm pretty sure this FREE service doesn't have the resources to host every single old / new / personal / whatever plugins, mods, and/or mod packs that everyone requests without taking a big hit to performance. Hence why I believe they go for the most recent ones, which is what users most commonly use. Also a reason why they go for the ones on trusted services instead of letting users upload them themselves: it'd be an overload on their machines.

I believe they already have that explanation somewhere, altough I can't find it right now. Basically, it's because all the plugins and mods are installed on their machines, and in order to prevent an user from plugging a virus or an unauthorized mod into their machines, they do it all manually and only from trusted sources.

You don't have to worry. What they call "hackers" are the people who, just like you, use cracked.

If this is your friend's server, I recommend you try the other IP (which he can obtain by him clicking the "connect" button on the server page). It should be an odd link with a port at the end. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I can't help further. Maybe any development or helper can jump in here?

When you "install" the mod pack, trough the server website, it should tell you what version the server will use right before you click "install".
-
How to write a (good) plugin/modpack/mod request
You should refer to this before posting a mod pack request
-
You can change it in the options tab before starting the server. "Cracked users" or something I believe. By default it's on online mode.
-
I second this one! It's an amazing modpack.
Edit: Just found out it has been added! It's not on the ATL, but on the Curse section.
