A plugin creator made a build specifically for me (not paid), but Aternos won't accept it

  • I have a situation where the creator of plugin made a version of it (1.8) specifically for me, since I asked them to (their original didn't work for me). But, he gave me a dropbox link and didn't put it on his bukkit page. So now, there's literally no way to get a plugin specifically made for me because this site doesn't accept dropbox links. What the hell do I do?

    The plugin is https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/angrygolems

  • We only offer plugins from bukkit.org or spigotmc.org. It's not possible to upload a plugin from your computer or dropbox.

    Well that's helpful

I already get the gist that this site doesn't do that, but why? Also, the plugin IS bukkit.org (just the specific one I want is a drpobox link, but I'll take a different version on the site at this point). Again, why doesn't this site accept old plugins? I want an explanation, as it seems pretty dumb to me

  • Also, did you block me in some way? Because I can't PM you. Why did you trash my thread named exactly "Why the hell can't old plugins be accepted?" for "same thread topic" when they were totally different topics?

  • I believe they already have that explanation somewhere, altough I can't find it right now. Basically, it's because all the plugins and mods are installed on their machines, and in order to prevent an user from plugging a virus or an unauthorized mod into their machines, they do it all manually and only from trusted sources.

Thanks for actually explaining unlike someone, but that still doesn't explain why old plugins that aren't updated for awhile aren't

Our system uses API's to automatically fetch the information about plugins and to download them.

The upload of plugins is currently not allowed due to security reasons.

Probably because they do not work on newer versions. (And some other reasons)

    no

    Because I can't PM you.

That's a community board. All topics (out of account stuff etc.) should discussed public.

Why did you trash my thread named exactly

Probably because you created two threads with the same topic.

cuz they dont work on new ones duh (and some other stuff)

If someone (like me) wants to play an older version, then what's the problem with adding it to the site? That's not a very good reason

uh why did u trash my thread they werent remotely the sam-

    yes they were

They really weren't. One was specifically asking "why this site doesn't accept old plugins", and this one ask "what can I do to get this plugin I really like accepted?"

  • And I'm pretty sure this FREE service doesn't have the resources to host every single old / new / personal / whatever plugins, mods, and/or mod packs that everyone requests without taking a big hit to performance. Hence why I believe they go for the most recent ones, which is what users most commonly use. Also a reason why they go for the ones on trusted services instead of letting users upload them themselves: it'd be an overload on their machines.

That was a way better explanation, again thanks. But still, I don't see how letting in a few exceptions will drastically hurt performance. Plus, it can't be THAT hard to check whether a dropbox link is a virus or not, right? No? All well. I'm clearly in the minority who has very specific needs, and this site can't fulfill that. Off to somewhere else, I guess

  • As for the exceptions, the thing is that if you open an exception, others users will want to drop in too. I also think I read somewhere that their API automatically gets the plugins from the official sources, so getting a custom plugin would be an extra ton of work dedicated to one single request of one single user. Regarding the checking for virus or not, the problem here is that they can't guarantee what your plugin really does (without using it for a while, which would take a lot more work too). You might not do this, but some user would definitely try to sneak a script to keep the server up 24/7, which goes against how this service works and manages to operate for free

    Closed the thread.
