Do you want to downgrade the forge version of your server or your PC?

Maybe your can try removing all the mods one by one to identify which mod was causing the issue.

Once you update to 1.18 your world won't get deleted. The new world generation will be applied on the unloaded chunks in your world.

Have you tried regenerating the world? Regenerating the world will delete your current world so do keep a backup incase anything happens.

Before doing this try using https://aternos.org/software/v/forge/1.16.5-recommended and see if it works

Aternos provides the modpacks 1:1 as provided by the modpack creator so if your facing an issue I doubt that it's with the server that's causing your client side minecraft to crash. You can try asking in the modpack author's discord as they would know better.
