I have my server set up and running and it works! I tried to join the server andi managed to get on. My friend was trying to get on at the same time as me. He told me that it said either "connection timed out" or "cannot connect to server". He was playing on a mac that time so maybe that was the problem. Can somebody please help me?

It less has to do with the operating system your friend is using, it's more likely his internet connection, which is causing the problem.
Did he try to join the server with both IP-Addresses yet? What does the error log in your console say?

The server has to be started to be able to see the console.
