Modular ender storage system instantly crashes the server

I'm trying to use the fabric mod Modular ender storage system or MESS and everything in the mod works fine until I try to actually put items into the storage system which instantly crashes the server. It only happens when the items in the storage system are more than a standard minecraft stack i.e I can't put 128 blocks of dirt into the system without crashing the game. I tried seeing if this was a mod issue but the mod works perfectly when i run it on a single player world so i have to assume it's a server error. What can I do to stop this problem?
