Sine you're currently on 1.17 and Mohist 1.16.5, maybe - maybe not.

Downgrading is in general not recommended. But you can create a backup and try it out.

You can see that in the client log which located in .minecraft/logs/latest.log on your computer.

That error message typically appears if the installed mods on client and server are not the same.
