and yes, 1.8.* plugins should work with any 1.8 version

Are you sure you used the appropriate plugin version?
Is there anything in the log when you start your server that says something about these plugins? (any error messages)

On Aternos there's a plugin limit, so you can only have 15 plugins at the same time. Maybe you installed too many..
