Revealed IP Address upon joining server

The Aternos forums are now deprecated

  • Basically whenever you join a Minecraft server, your details are logged for logging and security measures.

Aternos records these logs and puts them into the 'Logs' page of the server.

The problem here is that as of also been said on the title, the user's IP address is included within the user's details.

This means that anyone with access to server logs, has the ability to see and expose the IP Address of any user who joins.

With the IP Address, one can find someone's critical information such as location, images, passwords, etc etc.

I do understand the fact that fixing this would be a problem to IP banning,

Which gives me an idea to suggest implementing a feature where you can ban someone by username but the user's location will be checked (without revealing it to anyone but Aternos servers) and that checked IP would get banned. The user wouldn't be able to see the person's IP but will be able to see it as that individual's username.

(This happens for both Editions but I only had the ability to select one as a label).

    Thanks.

  • IPs are displayed because Minecraft does that. It’s something Minecraft did, not Aternos.

With the IP Address, one can find someone's critical information such as location, images, passwords, etc etc.

That's just false, one can't really do anything with the public IP addresses, only finding the general geographic location like the city or country.

Also, every single website you open or server you connect to logs your IP.

This is true for any Minecraft server and any other service you use. It's simply how the internet works.

    No, one can not.

You likely have been fed a lot of false information from people trying to sell you VPNs. I'd recommend watching this video:
