Hello! I apologize if this is the wrong forum category to put this in. I wanted to ask how effective authentication plugins like the one provided here help protect against potentially unwanted people entering the server. Both I and my friend have never done anything huge with servers, so we're sort of clueless about protection measures and the like. Thank you!

It doesn't really help against "unwanted people".
Such plugins usually only ensure that the player who joined the server is really the one he claims to be.
Enabling cracked mode on a server completely disables the global Minecraft authentication system. If that's the case players can freely choose their name and login as OP. That's what the auth plugins try to prevent.
