I tried to create a kit with essentials kits but it doesnt work
I used /createkit (name) but nothing happens, just no msg at all
so then i tried to give away starter items using commandblocks but when i tried to spawn in a command block

could someone please tell me what im doing wrong and tell me how to fix it

Which plugin version and which server software version are you using?
1.8 is probably using the old id system instead of block names.
Try to use block ids instead of names: https://minecraft-ids.grahamedgecombe.com/
Did you already check the wiki page which is linked in that kit config file.
make sure they are enabled in the options, also you have to be op on your server and be in creative mode.
as you are on an older version you can try to use the normal essentials instead of essentialsX
