I've been searching for a mod pack to run for my community which takes the aspect of managing villages & advancing through different era's (think Millionaire and Minecolonies), but also include some automation through packs like Immersive Engineering and Steves Carts, and I've found one called "Life in the Industrial Age", it's a fairly popular modpack which sits in a nice middle ground between managing villages and machinery.
