Moving versions

Hey so i want to have my server be 1.16 rn its 1.15.2 if i make a backup and i switch versions but it doesent work and alot of stuff breaks and i use the back up to go back to 1.15.2

i meant if something went wrong with plugins

but if i cant will the backup still work?
