Modded 1.16 is very hard to run on Aternos at this moment, so giving us the option to use Mohist as a server software is very benefical, for both the players, and Aternos itself.
What is Mohist?
Mohist is a minecraft forge server software which implements paper/spigot/bukkit API.
So you can use plugins and mods together on the same server.
Magma accomplishes the same thing, but unfortunately magma didn't update past 1.12.2, while Mohist is available for both 1.12.2 and 1.16.5 as of now.
Why add Mohist?
As mentioned before, the only option similar to Mohist, magma, didn't update past 1.12.2.
- Mohist comes with paper and spigot minecraft optimizations which will make running the server far more easier and consume much less resources such as cpu usage and ram, which is the biggest benefit for adding it at this moment, in addition to this, with how much minecraft changed since 1.12.2 (new world type to support waterlogging, nether update, bees, etc) it will stabilize the tps on the server and make playing on it much more enjoyable.
- Mohist makes using plugins and mods together possible.
- Mohist is open source and gets frequent updates to support latest forge and paper spigot versions, thus reducing the risk of bugs and crashes while adding new features.
- Due to the mentioned optimizations above, using Mohist instead of vanilla forge will reduce the stress on Aternos's systems due to each server instance will be using less resources.
