Are you sure the configuration is used that way? Is there any tutorial or guide you follow?

I don't see any problems saving files with special characters like <>.
Can you tell us what you try to edit in which file, so that we can try to reproduce the problem?

It works fine for me. I've added a line with <> to the defaultAttachments.yml file.
Which browser do you use and do you have any addons?
