The introduction of simulation distance

  • Hello, i would like to know if there are any plans on increasing the max view distance with the introduction of simulation distance on 1.18. View distance should not impact performance with the simulation distance set to the same number... If you can't do that, why? are there any problems with this?


    Context: Simulation distance is now added to 1.18 snapshots. it is the distance at which blocks and entities are processed (ticked). View distance is therefore now only the distance at which chunks are sent to the player for rendering, so you only see them, they are not changed, pistons don't work, entities don't move, you just see it.

    We are already aware of that new setting.

    The new simulation distance setting can certainly lead to performance improvements, but we believe that the advantage is smaller than you suspect. World generation plays a very big role and is also one of the main reasons why we limit the view distance. In addition, it can be assumed that with the 1.18 release the world generation will be even more ressource intensive.


    Currently there are no plans to change the current limits. We will monitor this and try to figure out how we can use the new settings to improve performance for all users.
