Am I correct to believe this basically changes, and configures my connections? Have to admit, I doubt I'm advanced enough to do something along those lines.

Hm, changing your DNS might help. Btw can you get a screenshot of that error/message?
If you try to connect using the normal IP, do you get any error?

Another question, what does deleting playerdata do? If so, which playerdata do I delete? (Talkin' bout old or new)
Playerdata contains all your information: Inventory, xp, location, archievements, etc.

When you change that option, it changes your UUID, which changes your playerdata.

I was just starting heavens of sorcery, and like 15 minutes in I lost connection (I don't remember exactly what it said though). Ever since then it says "Unknown host" when I try to join.

That's not necessary if you get "Unknown Host", just change dns.
