At this current state we can't grant our users FTP access to their servers.

That's so bad ![]()
Instead we have other advantages, for example you don't have to pay anything ![]()

and why cant you give us access to ftp it would be really useful we can backup all
of our worlds if we have a multiworld server and we could also backup the files for the plugins
and could you also add an option to upload plugins
these are the only two more things i expect to be on aternos especially since you are the only free minecraft server hosts and all the other server hosts offer this but they are paid
No, ftp cant be offered because of security risk, in ftp you can do all you want in server for example download a virus and plugin that are not suitable like enjin buycraft etc and make your server 24/7 add fake players , and it will not offered!
It much complicated than you think
ok ftp plugins can't but why not mods?
same applies to mods

You can backup your worlds *Facepalm*
Ok. I get the security reasons, but it'd at least be nice to have an address we could ftp/scp to so that we could locally back up our worlds. FTP supports partial downloads, so if someone is trying to download a large world, and their internet goes out, a browser would just whine and make you restart. Tools like wget let you start from where you left off, which would be great. I'm assuming your servers run linux, so I don't get where the difficulty is. Non-world files could be marked *rwxr--r--, and world files and other could be marked *rwxrw-rw-. If a user only modified world files, they'd never be able to do the things that are a security risk.

I don't see why you would want a third option to back up your world, I mean.. you can literally back it up every 10 Seconds if that's you want, you can download the file and save it in another file.
A third option so so, would basically then turn out useluss

You can download it on the worlds page, what's the problem?

1) Partial downloads.
2) I'd love to be able to load it on Google Compute

And google drive isnt unlimited. For instance, in the drive that is linked to aternos, I don't have mu free space. :p
On another note. Programs like FileZilla are MUCH easier to use, letting us edit/upload individual mod config files locally, instead of using the web editor.

I understand what you mean but I don't really see the sense why we need that.

Having a STATIC URL to download from would be great. If you cancel a browser download or it stops because a connection cut out, the download would have to restart. Which can quickly become a nightmare on a slow connection. Having a static url (which is implied by ftp) would be great because, with tools like `wget` on linux, or similar on windows, you could just start from where you left off. (aka. wget's -c option.)

And another reason would be to download it on a VPS, i.e Google Compute Engine.
And um...correct me if im wrong, but isn't the server timeout in server.prop? Can plugins/mods even touch that?

We won't change that due to multiple, mainly technical, reasons. And if your connection is so bad that you can not even download a world I wonder why you are even able to play on our servers.

Yes it is, yes plugins can touch them.

I mean, but a plugin can't touch a file it doesn't have perms for can it?
And I can play on your servers, but sometimes a modded world can get large :p
