Everyone's MAJOR issue: LAG

  • Dear all aternos devs/admin:

The 1.8GB RAM allocated to server hosting is nowhere near enough RAM to properly host a server.

Here's many, and always occuring issues we come across, and we're sure that others encounter similar issues.

The amount of server lag is unbearable- we get killed by mobs and other entities easily because they clip all over the place. A village raid happened recently, 3 players (each with diamond/iron armour) could barely make it through wave 3 of 5 because of the lag.

The render distance is terrible- all 3 of the server players have their render distances above 20 chunks, while the world loads in at 10 or less chunks because of RAM overload. Allocating personal computer RAM to our own minecraft game doesn't help one bit. I personally run 10GB and there was no improvement.

Players crash while transporting between dimensions- travelling to the nether requires at least 2.5GB to run efficiently. Even if we make it into the nether, we encounter lag that is worse than that in the overworld. We cant even evade ghast or blaze fireballs.

Before someone goes and accuses the host of bad WiFi connection, I can assure you all three players have a good connection.

One last statement before I finish my rant: I have browsed the forums about how to change the RAM: there are many posts about altering the RAM used in the server, and those individuals being told that they cannot alter the RAM. I bed you already know that this is a large issue that many people want changed.

Please, for the love of god, make this better. Not just for the three mentioned in this post, but to all aternos users.

That's just wrong I personally have hosted lots of servers my own(on my pc) and for a not modded server 1-2GB have always been enough until 1.13/14 came. They just broke everything and even 10GB of Server RAM didnt help with that. Also RAM inst the only factor in performance there also can be CPU or software bottlenecks.

The render distance is terrible- all 3 of the server players have their render distances above 20 chunks, while the world loads in at 10 or less chunks because of RAM overload.

This is also wrong this doesnt happen directly because of performance limits but rather because they are ALWAYS locked in the server.properties. the default value is 10 and aternos changed it down to 5 for 1.13+ vanilla and spigot servers to improve their performance. Paper changes that like you can read in this article.

This totally makes sense it's a server bottleneck.

This sounds like you are talking about a game crash wich has nothing to do with aternos performance but rather with your pc(s).

The host is Aternos wich doesnt use WiFi but for clients that argument would make sense ok.

Aternos cant just set this value higher because it's a FREE SERVICE and more RAM costs more money. They are always trying to improve the performance of the servers and the experience of their users. They are aware of the problem but the only real solution is Mojang optimising their world format.

Btw I wonder of you found this article in your research.
