Hi, i'm having this particular problem as well, but i have cracked enabled for my server and i'm loading it with PaperMC in the latest version. i'm currently using T Launcher with the Optifine latest version.
my username is Guille2610, i've seen that the problem was solved with people that had usernames of more than 16 characters but that is not my case.

so i just tried to get in and this is what happens on the log:
[22:58:42] [Server thread/INFO]: /190.122.168.20:58643 lost connection: Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: java.lang.NullPointerException
From several reports we heard that using another launcher than TLauncher solves the problem
The solution to the problem of index 25 (or any number), size 5 (or any number) is to make a shorter username, if you can't, make another account with a shorter name.

The username error code is something along the lines of "x > 16 characters", also you can't generify every single out of bounds error to the username...
