I wouldn't call it "industry standard", but it's a fact that most modders use curseforge as they have a nearly perfect solution for modders on people who want to use these mods.
The mods which are not hosted on curseforge are distributed via other channels, but these other channels are most cases so small that the effort to integrate them is not worth the benefit or do not fulfill the technical requirements for an integration.
