From the error message I'd say that your tries to connect to a misconfigured BungeeCord server and not to your server.

Share the server log using the share button on the log page after your friend tried again.
Your friend should also share the client log too.

Tell your friend to get the log from it's Minecraft directory and share it with us.
Note that he should try to join before sharing the log
