Server is unplayable, can I put more ram into the server?

My server is absolutely unplayable, It takes 30 seconds to do something as simple as eating a porkchop and I do nothing but rubber band. I went to a different free server client and I put the same seed and it loaded a similar world,but after doing some research I put more ram into the server and ta-da! the lag is gone, however this website is very limited and has you pay a lot if you want to add plugins like I can with aternos so I really don't wanna have to go to that.
