Died in the Nether, disconnected and couldn't rejoin

Not long ago I was playing (alone) in my friend's server and I died in the Nether. I wasn't able to respawn (although I have clicked on "Respawn" repeatedly) so I disconnected from the server, hoping to be able to rejoin afterwards. However, the game stated that the connection has timed out whenever I tried to rejoin it. As I checked the site to see the condition of the server, it states that the server was still online (it's still online as of now) and weirdly shows that there is still one more player in the server. Note that I was only the only player in the server until I disconnected, so I guess it could be a server glitch? I have also made sure that nobody has joined the server during this time around. This is also the second time it happened. When it first happened yesterday I was unable to connect back into the server at all. I was only able to connect back into the server again after I stopped playing upon finding out that I was unable to rejoin. Is there any fix to this problem?
