Where and why do i need to provide a SHA1 hash for a resource pack

    ok so i put a link to a resource pack in and got this error in console: [11:01:51] [Server thread/WARN]: You specified a resource pack without providing a sha1 hash. Pack will be updated on the client only if you change the name of the pack.

    since when is this a thing and where do i put it:?:
