Enabling Flying and how to use it

I'm confused as to how the flying system works; I enabled flying on our server, but I can't seem to find how to use it in game. Help?

press space twice

You need to be in gamemode 1. So do /gamemode 1
then press space twice to be in fly mode, fly up by holding space and down by holding shift. To get out of the fly mode again press space twice.
