So my friend and I were on our world, we had hours and hours of progress on it. We were bothered by the fog so we tried to increase the view distance and while we were there, he wanted to change the world name. After he did that, our world was gone. We lost all our stuff and it was a completely new world. Was it from updating it to 1.18? Did the world name change make a new world? We have no backup of the world and I know we cant retrieve it, I just want to know what happened. Please help.
Friend accidently deleted world, what happened?

I guess your friend might have regenerated the world while changing the name. Next time if you want to change your world name just go to https://aternos.org/files/server.properties and do it. As you don't have backups there is no way to get your world back

we did it in server properties, hmm. i think you're right though, he mustve accidently regenerated it somehow. thanks for the quick reply
If you/they did it in server.properties then changing the world name back in server.properties should help
