Please note.
There are two different types of Essentials.
Essentials and EssentialsX.
Essentials (without X) only works up to minecraft 1.8
For newer versions of minecraft you have to install EssentialsX.Please delete the essentials jar on https://aternos.org/files and then install essentialsX on https://aternos.org/plugins.

Go to aternos.org/plugins, search for the Essentials plugin you have downloaded, click on that (don't download) and send me the link -
