Lagging alot on Vanilla minecraft

Hello guys, ive been playing on a server with two other friends for around a week or two now and i had no issues with lag, but around 3 days ago it started getting very laggy. Was trying to break blocks only for them to appear and then break 3 seconds later, animals would have hard time moving and mostly would teleport instead of walking, eating food took way too much time due to lag etc. Sometimes it might stop for a few minutes only for it to shorty start after

We've haven't been using any mods/plugins and we've been using both 1.14.4 and 1.15 and it was lagging on both versions. Also we used optifine on 1.14.4 and it still lagged with or without it.

My internet connection doesn't really have a problem, a friend was hosting the server from his place and we still all had lag, i hosted it and again the same.

Also it's just weird because a few days ago it was fine without any issues..

The article mentions that the internet connection could be unstable and that's why i mentioned it. I tried installing PaperMC and i think it's a bit worse than before, like it takes a big longer for blocks to break and such. Not sure what to do since i had performance issues in 1.14.4 aswell

Also the server log says "Can't keep up! Is the server overloaded? Running 2053ms or 41 ticks behind" Sometimes it goes up to 413 ticks or 180. Not sure if this helps

My thought at first was that we had alot of mobs in general in one area so i tried clearing them and leaving as few as possible, that didn't really solve anything. So even if im at a biome that i haven't been before and has no mobs or structures it will still lag. I don't think there's specific areas that it happens. Just sometimes the lag stops for a minute or two and then starts again
