I cannot join my friend's server on minecraft, it keeps saying; connection lost Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codes.DecoderException: Badly compressed packet - size of 259082 is larger than protocol maximum of 2097152

I did install more mods, however when that message popped up, I took the mods out and tried to lower how much mods I have. We only had about 30 mods installed to begin with, and only increased it to 35. When I tried to minimize it back down, it still showed the same message.

I do not understand what this message means, please help.

That's unrelated...

i've seen something before. this may work but it may not, tell your friend to set their render distance to 1 and then try to join. if it works they can set it back to what they had before after they join the server
