If I update my vanilla 1.14.3 server to 1.16, do I lose the progress of my world?

Me and my friend have been playing on this server for a couple months, and I've been wanting to find a way to update it to the latest version. But, I have no idea how it will impact on our progress.

Will we lose our progress if we update to the new mc java version?
