Hello there! I saw a post about MySQL, and a reply said if they wanted a database on an aternos server, they had to get one separately. Is a separate one a plugin or something? Help would be great! Thanks!

I think they meant a separate database, which means a not-Aternos-hosted one, so a database which you rent from someone (in most cases for money). But ig you would quote the post, i could tell you more precise I think.
