  • Hello there,

Hope your having a wonderful day,

I know this has been heavily repeated but it is still a needed feature. Please add support for ftp file upload using a platform like filezilla. Filezilla is free and open source so i don't know what else the problem is. Yes the files may contain viruses but just use a free virus scanner like virustotal and block even if one of the engine detected the file being a virus.

There are a lot of free minecraft hosting provider out there but aternos :aternos: is always mentioned as the king of free hosting provider with the only major problem being the ftp file upload. It would help a ton if this feature was implemented.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my post :)

  • Some answers to the problems posed by roman:

Security: you can use clamAV(free and open source) ftp to scan files for viruses and delete them.

Using mods or plugins for 24/7 server: you can add a feature that will STOP not restart servers if they are online for more that 4 hrs (or 5). I think many people would accept that if they were given ftp file uploading. Make a poll in forums or discord server to see how many people like this idea.

People uploading rubbish: this is a bit more complicated to solve

I'm pretty sure I didn't understand what this means but I will try to solve it. if you mean people installing idiotic mods or VERY heavy modpacks, well they have to be responsible for their actions. Moreover most modpacks state the server ram requirements in the page so it's their fault if the server crashes or corrupts

If you mean people uploading lot of useless things like non mod files or just trying to ddos the server by giving it like a 100 tb file to upload, you can limit which type of file format is supported for a specific folder. Eg: mods and plugins folder only accepts .jar, config folder only accepts .json or .properties or .yml or etc. You can also limit file upload size to something reasonable like 100mb and if it exceeds it (most likely it's a modpack) then you can ask the user to add some mods at a time. Or if it's a pain to add specific file format to each folder, please just add a feature to add .jar files to mods and plugins folder.

I really hope a team member reads this and thinks about the solutions i came up with. If you have any issues with them, please feel free to comment on it.

  • Don't you think Aternos team would have thought about the possible solutions before taking the decision of not allowing to upload custom jars and FTP

Sure, that could be added but it would be impossible to make it so that it can scan any possible virus, 24/7 bot, etc. Also, too much useless work for something that has too many downsides.

This just doesn't make any sense. It still wouldn't be a 24/7 server. You want your server to stay online 4/5 hours? Play for 4/5 hours.

I think many people would accept that if they were given ftp file uploading. Make a poll in forums or discord server to see how many people like this idea.

This is not a valid example, everyone would say yes just because it's a new feature. Even people who don't actually need it. For them it's deciding whether they want a plus feature or not. No one would say no.

No need, your same "solutions" have been repeated by many different users over and over again. They won't add any of these features. And sure, the possible upsides of these feature are honestly good, I mean, who wouldn't want a FREE 24/7 server with ftp access? But unfortunately that's not possible, because again, the upsides don't cover the downsides.

Filezilla is free and open source so i don't know what else the problem is.

Being paid and not open source are not the only possible problems. Then again, the problem is not with Filezilla. It's with the concept of uploading custom files.

just use a free virus scanner like virustotal and block even if one of the engine detected the file being a virus.

If the Team was ever going to make a virus scanner, they wouldn't use one that already exist, especially if it's a free one. They would probably going to make one to be more safe, but again, too much useless work.

The points you have made are completely valid and I am the one who was wrong. I am just replying to this because you have the wrong idea. By stopping the server after 4 to 5 hrs i meant that as a feature to prevent 24/7 server exploit. If during that time the only people who are online are bots, then the server will be offline untill someone manually turns the server on. Yes this does have many loopholes, but this was just a suggestion. Mabey the creators can use this idea with another one to make it better. By make a community poll i meant make a poll saying that if they add ftp uploading they will have to implement stopping the server after 4 to 5 hrs. I see where my wordings were wrong that let you into thinking otherwise.

Once again, I am sorry for wasting everyone's time on this forum post.
