Server Lag

Hello all,

I started my server about a month ago and the lag sometimes gets horrible. It's a 1.14.1 survival Spigot server with the WorldEdit and BetterChairs plugins and the world has been explored relatively well. Lagwise, it's generally lag free until the server has been up for 3 hours or so when eating food becomes nearly impossible and blocks magically disappear and I have to restart the server. Sometimes the lag starts up right away after the first login. The main concern, however, are these ceaseless messages on the server log: "Can't keep up! Is the server overloaded? Running at x ms or y ticks behind." and "[player] moved too quickly! x, y, z." I just want to know if there's anything I can do to help the server run smoother.

Thank you very much this has been very helpful! But I would still like to know if I could switch the server type from Spigot to PaperMC as suggested in the article and how to safely update the server to 1.14.3 without deleting the current world.

EDIT: Just read the uploading a world support article and I'm afraid that our current world might be too large as we've explored all 3 worlds (Overworld, Nether, and End) but I do not know for sure.
