Is that anyway to tell if there are unnecessary files clogging up all the space? All the back ups are way smaller in size too.
Server is too big despite being playable earlier?

Alright, fair enough. It is still odd that just yesterday the server worked fine and now it's 12 MB over the limit? Some of the other threads on here mentioned certain plug ins possibly creating unnecessary data? How would I check this?
-
In the files, check for any big files
-
All the files seem to be contained in worlds, and I'm not sure what is or isn't important to the server.
-
Every single file, everything
-
everything but a crash report and one other file that's only a few kB
-
Then it might just be that your world is really big, try downloading it and see how big
-
It's 3.7 GB, which is 300 MB smaller than what Aternos says it is
-
Well, other files can add up to make it 4GB. I recommend you use MCEdit to cut unused chunks off

I checked your server and it appears that your world folder is just very very big.
If you want we can try to shrink your world size using thanos.
Thanos is a system to delete unused chunks. More information: https://github.com/aternosorg/thanos
We would do that for you, so you don't need to download the world.
If this is ok for you please create a backup on the backups page, just to be safe if anything goes wrong, and tell us when done.

back is created, and thank you for the help

I tried to delete unused chunk with thanos, but unfortunately it didn't really work.
This might be related to the your installed software. You're using forge with mods, these mods are probably affecting world generation in such a way that we can't delete chunks automatically.
You probably need to download the world and delete unused chunks manually with e.g. MCedit.
